Georgetown University's School of Continuing Studies is now offering one of its premier master’s degrees online, allowing students to access Georgetown University’s competitive educational offerings from anywhere in the world. The School of Continuing Studies is now accepting applications for the online Master of Professional Studies in Technology Management program, with classes starting in 2015.
Online Master of Professional Studies in Technology
Taught by a faculty of technology professionals at the forefront of the industry, this program fuses technology with business, communication, and management best practices to transform skilled professionals into forward-thinking leaders, innovators, and executives.
The online master's in Technology Management features a rigorous and comprehensive curriculum that is designed to build students’ abilities in several core areas, including:
- Leadership development and business innovation
- IT project management and security
- Organizational change through technology deployments
- Ethics as they relate to technology, business, management and law
- Strategic planning with emerging technologies
- Methods of gathering, analyzing and prioritizing business and system requirements
The program consists of 10 courses totaling 30 credit hours, offering students a balanced mix of theory and practice in the technology industry.
MPTM 500: Ethics in Technology Management
MPTM 600: Managing Technology
MPTM 700: Systems Requirements
The System Requirement and Analysis course gives you a strong understanding of the various methodologies, tools, and processes available to a systems analyst as it relates to business system development and the system development life cycle (SDLC). You will learn methods of gathering, analyzing, and prioritizing business requirements. This course is focused on the business-side of a system development effort. Some of these topics include:
- Development methodologies
- Uncovering requirements
- Requirements gathering techniques
- Defining and translating business rules
- Requirements documentation and management tools
- Translating business rules and requirements into technical requirements
MPTM 800: Financial Analysis for Technology Managers
This course will provide Technology Managers with an understanding of the fundamental principles of financial management, and help them apply those principles to solve the real-world business problems. On completion, students will have a solid understanding of the building blocks of financial management including key financial concepts, financial statements, return on investment and budgeting.
The course is intended for non-financial technical managers, and project and program leaders, who need to understand and apply financial principles and concepts to their daily work. The course assumes no prior knowledge of financial theory or practice.
